Langenfeld Bridge in the Hamburg district of Stellingen is part of the A7 highway. As the technical lead in a joint venture, HOCHTIEF is responsible for dismantling the existing bridge and building its replacement. Work here, on Germany’s busiest section of highway, is being carried out with no interruption to road and rail traffic. The new bridge passes over two roads and a total of 17 railway tracks used by regional, long-distance, and freight traffic.
Within the scope of the project, Langenfeld Bridge will be widened to eight lanes whereby the two superstructures of the composite bridge will be slid into place. The construction work also includes road-building, rail-building, and the construction of rainwater retention basins and retaining walls. The dismantling of the prestressed concrete box-girder sections using longitudinal launching presents a particular challenge.
