Lithium Project, Upper Rhine Valley, Germany
HOCHTIEF is an anchor investor in Vulcan Energy, the world's first sustainable lithium and renewable energy company with a focus on Germany, and will be continuously involved in the development of the infrastructure for lithium production and processing.
Located in the Upper Rhine Valley, Vulcan Energy's Lionheart project will have a production capacity of 24,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) from geothermal brine, while generating renewable heat and electricity.
Group companies Sedgman and HOCHTIEF Infrastructure will operate the lithium extraction plant and the central lithium plant from design to construction and commissioning, which together will produce enough LHM for approximately 500,000 batteries for electric vehicles per year. No fossil fuels are needed for the production process.
