Optimizing cooperation with subcontractors

HOCHTIEF values open dialog with subcontractors because mutual understanding is the key to the operational tasks of project execution – especially in complex projects. As a way of further optimizing cooperation, HOCHTIEF Construction invites selected subcontractors to a Partnerforum every year. Dialog is focused on the question of how working together can be improved so that everyone involved can benefit from mutual expertise. After all, subcontractors are also experts in their sectors and operate in the marketplace.

The aim is to combine subcontractors' competences with HOCHTIEF's specialist knowledge. The idea is to bring the companies involved into the project in the initial planning phase, where influence can still be brought to bear, so that they can contribute their competences. Clients can only be offered smart, economical solutions if cooperation, based on partnership, starts at an early stage. The aim is for all the partners involved in the project to get to know and appreciate each other, so that they do more than just fulfil their contracts – making for trouble-free, stress-free construction work.

What representatives from HOCHTIEF like about the Partnerforum is the opportunity it gives them to talk about projects through the eyes of the subcontractors. They look upon it as a confidence-building measure and the basis for working together in partnership.

The event was held for the fourth time in 2005. One of the questions under discussion this time was how HOCHTIEF and its subcontractors can arrive at a similar assessment of market prices during the calculation phase, in order to minimize the risk for both sides. Another topic, under the theme of "Lighting and Facades", was technical aspects of innovative lighting. In 2005 it was especially representatives from the cladding industry and building services sector who took part in the Partnerforum.
