Production Process

Sustainability spans all project phases at HOCHTIEF, from planning, construction, operation and everyday use right through to eventual redevelopment. Because every structure is unique, the production process for each project is individually designed to secure the highest occupational safety, health and environmental efficiency stand-ards.

In all projects, all phases of the production process are controlled by an integrated management system. This encompasses quality and human resources management as well as environmental protection and occupational safety management.

The planning phase: Laying the foundations for sustainability

Innovative solutions designed to minimize land use are a key element of sustainability. Others include design for flexible use and advanced energy concepts. A building planned with sufficient foresight, for example, can easily be turned to a different use at any time. We therefore start any project by pinpointing the most efficient options in environmental and economic terms; these can then feed through into architectural design.
Optimizing construction operations planning well in advance also helps cut down on the use of electrical energy—for example by allowing judicious deployment of a minimum number of cranes. Professional site plans reduce haulage distances and ensure an unobstructed flow of traffic both on the sites themselves and on roads leading to them. This saves resources, significantly reduces noise exposure for the local community and improves occupational safety. Tailor-made waste disposal plans minimize waste, help prevent fires and make sites easier to work on. In engineering work below the water table, we do our utmost to minimize the quantity of groundwater displaced.

By careful selection of materials, we again save resources, secure a long service life for our
projects, cut costs and exercise our responsibility towards the environment.
