Operating ecologically and using limited resources sparingly is a matter of course for HOCHTIEF. It is our objective to identify the environmental impact of all projects and activities early on and to keep this to a minimum. For many projects, HOCHTIEF develops detailed environmental concepts and brings in innovative ideas.

By means of efficient energy management, for example, we protect the environment and increase competitiveness. HOCHTIEF's subsidiaries in Australia and the USA participate in, among others, various greenhouse reduction programs.

In 2010 HOCHTIEF was inducted into the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index. This ranking lists 30 major German companies which have distinguished themselves for their high level of transparency with regard to their CO₂ emissions. HOCHTIEF scored 77 points out of a possible 100, achieving 14th place in the ranking and categorization in Carbon Performance Group B. This confirms the importance that the company accords to climate protection, and shows that corresponding measures and initiatives–for example to reduce CO₂ emissions–have been integrated into the corporate strategy. The Index is published by the Carbon Disclosure Project, a global CO₂ transparency initiative set up by institutional investors. Every year it surveys Germany's 200 largest companies on a voluntary basis on their climate policy and their greenhouse gas emissions.
