
As long ago as the early 1990s the construction of RWE's head office in Essen and of the Commerzbank tower in Frankfurt am Main caused a big stir. In these buildings both HOCHTIEF projects back-ventilated double cladding ensures natural ventilation right up to the top floors. In addition, the ecological concept provided for the use only of building materials which were not harmful to health. The "sky gardens", which were desigend as Klimapuffer inside the Commerzbank tower, are still the model for numerous new buildings today.
