Sustainable "green building" increases in importance worldwide

"Green" buildings are attractive and efficient. They meet exceptionally high ecological standards, limit environmental impact and save energy. Green building also boosts investment yields, reduces operating costs and increases letting potential. At the same time, users profit from a positive living and working environment. This future-minded approach to construction has a decades-long tradition in Europe, first and foremost in Germany. Interest in sustainable buildings is growing around the world. World Green Building Council is an organization where companies from all continents unite. What they all have in common is the goal to safeguard our future by acting responsibly when making use of the world's resources.

HOCHTIEF is one of the founder members of the German Green Building Council (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V.). Since January 2009, this organization has been awarding the Quality Seal for Sustainable Building to projects, which place a strong focus on criteria of health promotion and resource conservation. In the United States, the Standard Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, known in short as LEED, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, is an award of high significance. HOCHTIEF's subsidiary Turner has already been a pioneer in green building in the U.S. for some years now. The company has realized a large number projects that have been LEED-certified. HOCHTIEF is also represented in the Green Building Council of Australia through its Leighton companies. MINERGIE® is the Swiss quality label for new and modernized buildings.
