Sustainable "green building" increases in importance worldwide
HOCHTIEF is one of the founder members of the German Green Building Council (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V.). Since January 2009, this organization has been awarding the Quality Seal for Sustainable Building to projects, which place a strong focus on criteria of health promotion and resource conservation. In the United States, the Standard Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, known in short as LEED, awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, is an award of high significance. HOCHTIEF's subsidiary Turner has already been a pioneer in green building in the U.S. for some years now. The company has realized a large number projects that have been LEED-certified. HOCHTIEF is also represented in the Green Building Council of Australia through its Leighton companies. MINERGIE® is the Swiss quality label for new and modernized buildings. The label is a joint commitment borne by Swiss business, the Cantons and the Swiss Federal Government and is protected against misuse.
