Awards, Ratings, and Rankings

Sustainability and corporate responsibility have a tradition at HOCHTIEF and are therefore firmly anchored in our corporate strategy, our vision, and in our corporate principles. Our clear commitment to sustainable construction is also confirmed by numerous ratings and rankings that we have received.


In 2016, HOCHTIEF came in second in the annual ENR "Top 250 International Contractors" ranking. HOCHTIEF is ranked eleventh among the "Top 250 Global Contractors." In addition, the company was listed in four more categories:

  • General Building Construction (No. 1)
  • Telecommunications (No. 3)
  • Transportation (No. 8)
  • Plants/Production Equipment (No. 9)

Dow Jones Sustainability Index

In September 2016, HOCHTIEF was recognized for its sustainable corporate management for the 11th year in a row and was included in the internationally renowned Dow Jones Sustainability Index Europe as the only German construction group.

Stock-listed HOCHTIEF affiliate CIMIC was listed in the Australian group and as a global market leader in the categories "Building Materials," "Environmental Policy and Management System," and "Resource Conservation and Resource Efficiency."

RobecoSam Sustainability Yearbook 2017

In the latest issue of the RobecoSam Sustainability Yearbook, HOCHTIEF was awarded "RobecoSAM Silver Class" status in the "Construction and Engineering" category. Only the best one to five percent of participants are included in the renowned silver class. In addition, HOCHTIEF was recognized as "RobecoSAM Industry Mover" as the company that made the most progress in its industry compared to the year prior. Australian subsidiary CIMIC was awarded bronze status.


HOCHTIEF was again awarded "Sector Leader Industrials" status in the Germany/Austria/Switzerland region by CDP in October 2016. With the award, non-profit organization CDP recognizes HOCHTIEF’s contribution to climate protection and reduction of pollutants. HOCHTIEF was recognized for its high degree of transparency in dealing with environmental issues. 

HOCHTIEF subsidiaries CIMIC and Turner were also recognized by CDP this year.


In 2016, HOCHTIEF was registered at EcoVadis, an international platform for the management of subcontractors and suppliers under sustainability aspects, with the silver status registered. This makes HOCHTIEF one of the best 30 percent of companies evaluated by EcoVadis.

STOXX Global ESG Leaders Indices

Following the annual review of all listed companies in the STOXX Global ESG Leaders Indices, HOCHTIEF was listed for the first time in September 2016.

The STOXX Global ESG Leaders Indices provide an overview of the world's leading companies regarding environmental, social, and governance criteria.

FTSE4Good Index

In 2016, HOCHTIEF was again listed in the FTSE4Good index, scoring 86 out of 100 possible points. HOCHTIEF achieved the full score primarily in the categories "Environmental Pollution and Resources," "Water Use," "Biodiversity," "Risk Management," and "Health and Human Rights." HOCHTIEF affiliate CIMIC was also listed in the index.

German Awards for Excellence

In 2016, the German Association for the Certification of Management Systems (DQS) recognized HOCHTIEF with the "GEA Excellence Award 2016" for its social commitment and awarded the company the title of "Sustainability Hero." HOCHTIEF received the award for its commitment in cooperation with non-profit organization "Bridges to Prosperity."

Immobilien Manager Award 2016

HOCHTIEF is the winner of the prestigious 2016 Immobilienmanager Award in the category of Social Responsibility. Trade magazine "Immobilienmanager" thus recognized HOCHTIEF's commitment in cooperation with the Bridges to Prosperity organization. Bridges to Prosperity
