Possibly the most spectacular bridge to be built in the 1990s. With a free span of 1,624 meters and a passage height of 65 meters, the bridge across the Great Belt is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world. The two pylons which extend to 27 meters below and 254 meters above sea level, are almost as high as the Eiffel Tower. The structure, between the Danish islands of Sprogø and Zeeland, links Copenhagen with the European mainland. As the lead contractor in an international joint venture, HOCHTIEF was responsible for this reinforced concrete structure.
