The worlds longest rail tunnel is currently being built in Switzerland: the Gotthard Base Tunnel and HOCHTIEF is involved in its construction. The 57 kilometer twin-tube tunnel runs from Bodio in Ticino to Erstfeld in Canton Uri. When the tunnel is finished in 2014, express trains will be able to pass through it in just 30 minutes, thus halving travel times between Zurich and Milan.
