HOCHTIEF

Our commitment to the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010

HOCHTIEF is a sponsoring partner of the RUHR.2010 European Capital of Culture, and HOCHTIEF Facility Management has taken on the technical management of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. To help ensure that things run smoothly, we are providing the company's organizational team with two project managers from HOCHTIEF Facility Management for more than one year, free of charge. The event technicians from the Essen subsidiary started work on August 1, 2009, and will remain in place until the end of 2010. In addition to assuming responsibility for the technical management of the events, they have been acting as contacts for the organizers and artists, and contributing their know-how to ensure the successful implementation of the large-scale projects, including the Biennale for International Light Art, ExtraSchicht and the Love Parade 2010.

In addition, we are promoting individual projects such as the innovative paper house, which is largely made of recycled paper. It is located on the grounds of the Zeche Zollverein in Essen, RUHR.2010's central event venue. At the end of September 2009, trainees from HOCHTIEF Construction laid the foundations of the "paper house," which won the "mobile working spaces" architectural competition.

HOCHTIEF is supporting the four-year-long interdisciplinary art project THE THIRD EYE, which is part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 program. Out of an exploration of the questions "What is a city, how do I love?", and "What can a city be?"–combining research, education and art–visions for the metropolises of the future emerged.

Furthermore, we are sponsoring the medieval exhibition "AufRuhr 1225!" in Herne, where we assisted with the construction of a medieval motte. HOCHTIEF Construction was responsible for setting up the construction sites and for the earthworks and reinforced concrete works.

Moreover, Düsseldorf International Airport, in which we have a shareholding, is the official RUHR.2010 airport, as well as being a sponsoring partner of this major event.

The A40 Becomes an Open Road

On July 18, 2010, 60 kilometers of highway through the Ruhr region were blocked off for the "Still-life A40/B1" event. HOCHTIEF was also represented here, at tables set up along the world's longest banqueting route. You can find further information here.
