Kaiserschleuse lock

An international port dating from 1897 cannot possibly be operated efficiently today without a few changes. That’s why HOCHTIEF Solutions, as technical leader, was commissioned to build the new Kaiserschleuse lock in Bremerhaven. It can accommodate today’s large ships and is hence well-equipped to master the challenges of the future. Since mid- 2011, big automobile transport ships have again had direct access to the port. The new, innovative vertical sliding/rolling gate has fewer moving parts and is thus easier to maintain. This goes hand in hand with a reduction in the operating costs of the lock and the locking times for the ships. HOCHTIEF secured the contract in what is known as the “competitive dialogue” awarding procedure used for the first time in Germany for a lock construction project by the public entity responsible.
