Like all concrete, the concrete used in roadwork pavement can experience shrinkage, meaning it can be prone to cracking and, often costly replacement. To help prevent this, a curing compound is applied to freshly poured concrete. Until now there has been environmental impacts associated with curing compound products being used. Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd has worked with a partner to develop an industry first environmentally-friendly mix made from wax, which is sprayed on the ‘green’ concrete and which then forms a durable protective coating. The product— already being used with successful results—is called Secure 33.
