Expansion of city ring road in Melbourne for EUR 437 million

| An alliance of companies including Thiess, a participating interest of the HOCHTIEF subsidiary Leighton, has been expanding a 9.7 km stretch of the M80 Ring Road in Melbourne, Australia since December 2009. The regional government of Victoria had already awarded the project to the partners at an early stage of development. It has now been entered as a new order and its total value of the order has been set: The Tulla Sydney Alliance, the name of the group, will receive approx. EUR 437.3 million (A$ 623 million) for their services. The majority of this will go to Thiess though the exact share is dependent on the division of labor as the project progresses.Used by more than 140,000 vehicles every day, the M80 Ring Road is the main traffic route between the northern and western parts of the Australian metropolis. It is also crossed by several other corridors and major arterial roads. Moreover, it connects many of the region’s towns. By the end of 2012, Thiess will widen this section to at least three lanes per direction, modernize existing bridges, reconfigure freeway interchanges and install electronic transport systems. Five lanes per direction are planned for some interchanges. | |
