RWE Tower in Essen, 1994-1996

RWE-Turm in Essen Essen has a new landmark: the glass tower building of RWE, a major power generation and supply company. It is 531 feet tall, and the tallest office building in the whole of the Ruhr industrial area. It testifies to a harmonious relationship between architecture, economics, and ecology. Quite apart from its height, its fascination lies in its unusual façade, which consists of a glass inner and outer shell. This enables energy to be saved in the air-conditioning and internal lighting systems. HOCHTIEF Facility Management GmbH looks after all the technical systems and the administration of the building and thus ensures the most efficient possible operation.
HOCHTIEF Projektentwicklung GmbH and the Essen branch of HOCHTIEF built the RWE Tower as part of the "Star Services Center". It was the winner, from amongst 100 entrants, of the "98 Realty Award" made by the CIMMIT, the German Realty Congress, the main German property market journal, and the Institute for International Research.
