Ertan hydroelectric plant in China, 1991-1999
Ertan lies in the southwest of China, in the southern part of the Province
of Sichuan - the biggest in China, with a population of 107 million.
The city has given its name to the hydroelectric project on the Yalong
River, where HOCHTIEF is one of three companies that have formed a
joint venture to build an underground cave power station. The contract
includes excavating three enormous caverns.
The biggest water reservoir is 920 feet long, 215 feet high, and 837 feet wide.
The hydroelectric power station will in the end have an output of 3,300 megawatts.
The project was inaugurated in September 1991 and the work was successfully completed in June 1999.
