University of Giessen, 1878-1879
As long ago as 1878, only three years after the company was established,
Philipp and Balthasar Helfmann gained their first major contract: to build the
University in Giessen, a provincial city north of Frankfurt. This is all the more
impressive when one bears in mind that the founders of HOCHTIEF had
started off with just a small brickworks and some horse-drawn wagons.
